Aralia mandshurica
Manchurian thorn/Drug Interactions:
Antidiabetic agentsAntidiabetic agents: In animal research, isolated saponins from Aralia mandshurica resulted in decreased plasma glucose levels (10). Antilipemic agentsAntilipemic agents: In human research, AraloxT, which contains both Engelhardtia chrysolepis and A. mandshurica, was found to lower levels of plasma triglycerides, and raise levels of plasma nonesterified fatty acids and hormone-sensitive lipase (2). Antiobesity agentsAntiobesity agents: In human research, AraloxT, which contains both Engelhardtia chrysolepis and A. mandshurica, was found to decrease total body weight and fat weight (2). Cardiovascular agentsCardiovascular agents: In animal research, Aralia mandshurica extract given chronically prior to a 45-minute coronary artery occlusion increased the rats' resistance to arrhythmias, but did not change the necrosis/risk area ratio (4). HepatotoxinsHepatotoxins: In animal research, high doses of Aralia mandshurica for 60 days led to increased serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, with polymorphonuclear cells and lymphocytes observed in portal and periportal regions of the liver (11). Animal research also showed that high doses increased liver weights significantly, but the treated rats lacked histological changes, except for one mild necrosis case (12).Manchurian thorn/Herb/Supplement Interactions:
