Euphrasia officinalis

Eyebright/Drug Interactions:

  • Cytochrome P450 (CYP 450) Metabolized AgentsCytochrome P450 (CYP 450) Metabolized Agents: Theoretically, eyebright may interact with medications that are metabolized by CYP 450. An animal study conducted on rat livers demonstrated inhibition of CYP 450 by the aglycone of aucubin (4). However, this effect has not been evaluated in humans.
  • Hypoglycemic Agents, InsulinHypoglycemic Agents, Insulin: Theoretically, eyebright may interact with medications that alter blood glucose levels. In a rat study, eyebright was found to exert no hypoglycemic effects in normal animals, although in rats with chemically induced diabetes, glucose levels were reduced (3).
