Uses
- It is used to help motion sickness.
- It is used to slow the speed in the stomach and GI (gastrointestinal) tract.
- It is used to treat loose stools (diarrhea).
- It is used to treat GI (gastrointestinal) ulcers.
- It is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome.
- It is used to treat muscle spasms of the GI (gastrointestinal) tract, gallbladder system, or urinary system.
- It is used to treat Parkinson's disease.
- It is used to treat side effects caused by drugs that are used for mood.
- Hyoscyamine lowers acid secretion in the stomach.
- It slows movement in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract and urinary tract, lowering the number of spasms.
- It helps keep chemical balance in the brain.
Dosing
How to take
- Oral:
- Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
- If you are taking this drug for irritable bowel syndrome or spasms of the GI (gastrointestinal) tract, take 30 to 60 minutes before meals.
- Drink lots of noncaffeine liquids unless told to drink less liquid by your doctor.
- There is a liquid (elixir, solution) if you cannot swallow pills.
- Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given.
- Long-acting products:
- Swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.
- Oral-disintegrating tablet:
- Place on the tongue and let melt.
- Do not swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.
- Under the tongue (sublingual) tablet:
- Place under tongue and let melt all the way. Do not chew, suck or swallow tablet.
- Shot:
- It is given as a shot into a muscle, vein, or into the fatty part of the skin.
