Uses
- It is used to treat low blood pressure.
- It is used to treat nose stuffiness.
- It is used with some other drug to numb an area.
- Phenylephrine shrinks swollen nose tissue and opens up passages.
- It shrinks blood vessels to raise blood pressure.
- It helps some numbing drugs work longer.
Dosing
How to take
- Oral:
- Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
- There is a liquid (suspension) if you cannot swallow pills. Shake well before use.
- Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given.
- Drink lots of noncaffeine liquids unless told to drink less liquid by your doctor.
- Shot:
- It is given as a shot into a vein.
- It is given as a shot into a vein over a period of time.
