Uses
- It is used to ease long-term pain problems.
- It is used to treat drug addiction and withdrawal.
- Methadone lowers the feeling of pain and how one reacts to pain.
- It binds to parts of the brain to lower the need for pain drugs and help with withdrawal signs.
Dosing
How to take
- Do not take this drug with other strong pain drugs or if you are using a pain patch without talking to your doctor first.
- Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
- Drink lots of noncaffeine liquids unless told to drink less liquid by your doctor.
- Dispersible tablet: Drop it in fruit juice or water. Drink it when melted.
- There is a liquid if you cannot swallow pills. Mix liquid with 1/4 cup of water before drinking.
- Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given.
- Shot:
- It is given as a shot into a muscle, vein, or into the fatty part of the skin.
- Drug addiction:
- You may need to go to a clinic for your dose.
