- It is used to treat a fast heartbeat.
- It is used to treat chest pain or pressure.
- It is used to treat high blood pressure.
- It is used to treat involuntary body movements.
- It is used to treat Raynaud's disease.
- Diltiazem calms blood vessels, lowering blood pressure.
Dosing
How to take
- Follow the diet and workout plan that your doctor told you about.
- Take as you have been told, even if you are feeling better.
- There is a liquid (suspension) if you cannot swallow pills. Shake well before use.
- Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given.
- Fast release:
- Take 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime.
- Long-acting products:
- Swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.
- Dilacor XR?, Dilt-XR, and Diltia XT?: Take on an empty stomach. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
- Cardizem? CD, Cardizem? LA, Cartia XT?, Dilt-CD, and MatzimT LA: Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
- Tiazac? and Taztia XT?: You may sprinkle contents of capsule on soft food or liquid. Do not chew.
- Shot:
- It is given into a vein for a period of time.
