Malaria Drugs
Antimalarials/Nutrient Depletion:
Vitamin KVitamin K: Based on in vitro evidence, quinines may increase vitamin K requirements (10773499). The authors suggest that if antimalarials are present in patients receiving post-operative vitamin K, vitamin K dosages may be increased to offset a potential donor-acceptor interaction effect.
Folic AcidFolic Acid:In vitro evidence suggests that pyrimethamine may have anti-folate activity (19435820, 18831691).
L-carnitineL-carnitine: A case report suggests that pyrimethamine may cause carnitine deficiency (8328486). The patient developed a symptomatic L-carnitine deficiency while using pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine, which was reversed upon discontinuation of these agents.
RiboflavinRiboflavin:Based on secondary sources, quinacrine and other antimalarial agents may impair riboflavin by inhibiting its conversion into active derivatives.
