Saffron/Nutrient Depletion:

  • CholesterolCholesterol: Based on animal (high fat) study, saffron and its constituent crocin had hypolipidemic effects (59). Total cholesterol was reduced. In a high-cholesterol-diet animal model, crocin decreased blood total cholesterol (143).
  • GlucoseGlucose: Based on animal study, saffron has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity (139; 92; 91).
