Taraxacum officinale

Dandelion/Nutrient Depletion:

  • GlucoseGlucose: According to animal research, dandelion may lower blood sugar levels (17; 18), although another study reported a lack of change (41).
  • PotassiumPotassium: Dandelion may alter the effects of potassium. Dandelion has historically been used as a diuretic, and may lower blood potassium levels. However, dandelion also contains potassium. In human research, a significant increase in urination frequency, volume, and excretion ratio was reported with 8mL of dandelion leaf extract administered three times in one day (in five-hour intervals) (19).
  • Uric acidUric acid: According to secondary sources, dandelion is an effective treatment for gout because of its ability to reduce high uric acid levels.
